Webinar participants will:

  • Learn about the “who”, “what”, “when”, and “why” of the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement;
  • Receive resources to assist you and your campus ahead of the November 4, 2024 deadline to initiate the 2026 application;
  • Hear about experiences and best practices from regional colleagues (panelist information below) who have successfully applied for the classification in previous cycles;
  • Participate in a Q&A with Cammie and guest panelists;
  • Be invited to future opportunities and events focused on the 2026 application hosted by TMA


About the 2026 Carnegie Foundation’s Elective Classification for Community Engagement:

  • The Carnegie Foundation’s Elective Classification for Community Engagement is a way for Colleges and Universities in the US to gain recognition for institutionalizing community engagement. Campuses must apply for the classification, which is offered every 2 years;
  • The Carnegie Foundation’s Elective Classifications are hosted by the American Council on Education (ACE);
  • To determine whether your campus is eligible to apply, search for your institution using the Institution Search page. If your campus is listed, then you are eligible to apply for the Community Engagement Classification;
  • Applications for the 2026 cycle must be initiated by November 4, 2024 for both institutions that are first-time applicants and those seeking re-classification that received classification in 2015 or 2020;
  • Among the 368 institutions that have received the Elective Classification in Community Engagement are 6 colleges and universities in Maryland, 2 in Washington, D.C.,1 in Delaware, 1 in West Virginia, and 4 in Northern Virginia;
